It Amuses Me

Just read a great quote at discussing a Hello Kitty Credit card.

RT @ddmeightball @vonbon3000: A friend of mine got a Hello Kitty CC and CA. Told me it helps him spend less since he is embarrassed to take it out of his wallet/pocket!

Talk about a creative way to stay frugal!

Here’s an article for

hoover_vac2Funny article at about items that you desperately want to get rid of, but keep because it still works.

It hits home because I have a Hoover vacuum cleaner with the old style vacuum bags that I bought in 1994. I’d love to get rid of it but this thing really sucks. Its lasted through cleaning roomfuls of Marine barracks for our weekly inspection, then survived several households full of college students, multiple roommates and now, extended family members.

Star_scaleOne of my favorite videos is the march of stars which I posted on 10/3/2008 showing the size scale of the largest stars. It boggles the mind just how large these suns are.

For example, the largest known star, VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa), is 2,100 solar radii, or 2,100 times the size of the Sun. To take this in perspective, if VY CMa replace the Sun, its diameter would extend out to Saturn’s orbit — 890,700,000 miles (1,433,449,370 km).  It takes light 80 minutes to travel that far!

Speaking of far — the farthest know object, a  massive cluster of galaxies called Abell 2218, is 13 billion light years away. The image that we see of these galaxies are 13 billion years old! These size scales are virtually impossible to visualize!

LOL – the OC Register Gagetress has an article about Valentine’s Day text messaging, including a cheat sheet.  Here it is for future reference!

I love the Darth Vader cleaner pic!  Check out the rest of his pics here.

and hugs him! I saw a cool animal video on the tube last night.  Its about these two men who saw a lion cub and Harod’s Department store and bought it and reared it and . . . well, just watch the video!

Merry Christmas from Build Big (well, ok, from me!)!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

freehugsIts funny. Although we can jet halfway around the world or pick up a phone and call someone on the other side of the planet or chat with people from another country, sometimes, its difficult connecting with people right where we are. Here is a link to the Free Hugs Campaign site, which I first read about on Ryan Graves blog. Here is Juan Mann’s story:

“I’d been living in London when my world turned upside down and I’d had to come home. By the time my plane landed back in Sydney, all I had left was a carry on bag full of clothes and a world of troubles. No one to welcome me back, no place to call home. I was a tourist in my hometown.

Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.

So I got some cardboard and a marker and made a sign. I found the busiest pedestrian intersection in the city and held that sign aloft, with the words “Free Hugs” on both sides.

And for 15 minutes, people just stared right through me. The first person who stopped, tapped me on the shoulder and told me how her dog had just died that morning. How that morning had been the one year anniversary of her only daughter dying in a car accident. How what she needed now, when she felt most alone in the world, was a hug. I got down on one knee, we put our arms around each other and when we parted, she was smiling.

Everyone has problems and for sure mine haven’t compared. But to see someone who was once frowning, smile even for a moment, is worth it every time.”

Hope that the video made you smile.  I think that its the perfect way to say . . .

Merry Christmas!
